Completed in July 2026, the Net Zero Resiliency Discovery Home is Empire Homes' most ambitious pilot project to date — a single home built to prove that Net Zero energy performance, climate resilience, and healthier indoor air don't have to come at the expense of one another. The home is now a certified CHBA Net Zero labeled home, and one of the most unique production homes built in Canada.
Powered by a 33-panel solar array with battery backup, the home is designed to offset its energy use and reduce carbon emissions by more than 30% compared to standard Empire construction — verified through CHBA-approved energy modeling and certified to the CHBA Net Zero label.
Built to withstand EF1-level winds up to 177 km/h and hail up to 45mm in diameter — roughly the size of a golf ball — the home's roof, siding, and building envelope were engineered with upgraded materials and construction methods designed to outperform standard code requirements, including reinforced wood sheathing, impact-resistant roofing, and a waterproofing system designed to guard against moisture and flood risk.
Integrated at the design stage, ERTH360 Wellness brings the home's indoor air quality to the same standard offered across ERTH360 communities — advanced HEPA filtration, upgraded ventilation, and design aligned to ASHRAE Standard 241.
The goal will be to understand the production and cost implications of building a home that is certified Net Zero with ERTH360 features.
